D-15 is a clear to yellowish liquid with acrid odor of acetic acid (vinegar).

D-15 readily hydrolyzes upon contact with moisture.

Application and performance

D-15 is transported from the production site as the parent silane to formulators. Generally, D-15is used as a cross-linker at 3% to 5%. As D-15 is compounded into a consumer or industrial sealant or adhesive, it reacts with the silicone. After curing the parent silane becomes cross-linked into the silicone rubber matrix and no longer exists, this greatly reduces the potential for consumer or worker exposure.

D-15 is often the main crosslinker of choice for silicone sealants and can be used by itself or in combination with other acetoxysilane to provide the sealant with targeted properties (such as desired cure rate, adhesion, etc).

The formulation process is similar to that of conventional acetoxysilane systems. In the first step, polymer and silicone oil are mixed and degassed. After that, t Crosslinker D-15 are added and homogenized. After mixing in Crosslinker D-15, mixing should continue for another 15 minutes. After that, the fumed silica, further fillers, pigments are added and homogenized. At the end, Catalyst D-70 is added and mixed in vacuum (150 – 200 mbar).
